5 Facelifts For Your Backyard

Backyards Cinder Block Shelves

It is almost that time of year again and everyone is panicking to make sure that their backyards are up to par with the neighbors. Backyards are prime entertainment areas for spring and summer and we all want to be proud of our space but sometimes, it can stressful or expensive. Here are 5 simple concepts that, if used well, could give your backyard or patio a proper facelift.
Backyards Tiki Torch Wine Bottles
1. Tiki Torch Wine Bottles To The Rescue
What is more fun than drinking and crafting? Use your empty wine bottles to thwart of off all of those nasty bugs ruining your party. We find this project is easier with screw top wine bottles. It’s as simple as filling your wine bottles with Tiki Torch fuel, poking a hole through the cap, threading some thick wick through the hole, and there you have it! If you want to take it a step further, mount them to your fence or porch banisters. For a snazzy tutorial, check out THIS how-to from Hello Glow.

2. Pretty Plants That Pack A Punch
While we are on the subject of fighting off bugs, why not tackle two birds with a burst of color? Choose a few planters that go with your backyard color scheme. You can go to your local greenhouse or farmers market and find these easily maintained plants that will add some color to your eating or sitting areas. Horsemint, Marigold, Ageratum, and Lavender are the colorful bug-fighting plants. If you would rather something greener, plant Citronella, Lemon Thyme, Basil, or Rosemary. We recommend having these plants on your tables and near doors to add some reinforcement for your home.

Backyards Pallet Couch3. DIY Pallet Couches For Relaxin’ Made Easy
Do you find yourself needing more comfortable seating? Again, this option will be up to the user’s discretion as far as color goes. Usually, it isn’t too hard to come across whole pallets. You can sand them, paint them and coat them as many times as your heart desires. We would recommend at least sanding the side that you label as “the front.” You can get weatherproof cushions that match or you can get a variety of different sized pillows and cushions that you can lay in any fashion you choose. Just sit the pallets down in front of an open wall, place the cushions, and you have yourself a stylish, low to the ground lounge area. Of course, if your cushions are not weather proof, take them in at the end of the day so they don’t get damaged! Want to get a little more creative and come up with your own luxurious pallet couch? 4. Cinder Block Shelves
This acquires a small amount of maintenance but it’s still incredibly easy. For the simplest, yet most elegant version, you need four cinder blocks and two 2×4 pieces of wood. This project just provides some extra shelving units for your backyard or patio while allowing you to add some character. Paint them whatever color you see fit. We recommend a contrast of color to make them pop (ex. darker color for the cinder block, lighter color for the wood.) The only assembly is laying the wood on the cinder blocks and then repeating for another level of shelves. It is up to you whether you’d like to bolt them together somehow, but it’s not necessary.

Backyards Cooler Storage5. Conceal Your Cooler In A Cool Way
This suggestion is more for your party situations. Rather than just sitting your cooler out on your newly facelift-ed patio, why not disguise it in a way to go along with your theme? You can put the cooler in a large basket. You can dig a hole next to your whole pallet couch for the cooler to sit in, at ground level, next to you. If you consider yourself to be more advanced in the DIY field, you can build a cart for your cooler to sit in with shelves for glasses, mixers, etc. Do your patio justice and think outside the cooler for where you keep your drinks at your party! This is your season! Don’t let stress get the best of you and be the neighbor everyone is talking about this year. We hope you enjoy these quick tips and can put to use some of these suggestions to give your patio or backyard the facelift it deserves!
